Snapped: “Jill Blackstone” (Oxygen, Sunday, December 1, 2024)

Snapped Key Art

The upcoming Snapped episode is a twisted Hollywood tale, far removed from the glitz and glamour typically associated with Tinseltown. Jill Blackstone, a producer who’d worked on shows like The Weakest Link and Divorce Court, found herself on the other side of the camera, not as a creative force, but as the central figure in a baffling tragedy.

In March 2015, Blackstone’s sister, Wendy, was found dead in the garage of their Studio City home. The scene presented a chilling tableau: a lifeless body, two deceased dogs, and a scattering of cryptic notes. The initial confusion surrounding Wendy’s death quickly spiraled into a complicated investigation. Was it an accident, a suicide pact gone wrong, or a deliberate act of violence?

Blackstone herself was found at the scene, disoriented and claiming memory loss. Her account of events – a barbeque, a fall in the driveway, and a sudden inability to walk – seemed at odds with the grim reality inside the garage. Authorities, however, painted a different picture, suggesting Blackstone had staged the scene to look like an accident, motivated by the financial and emotional strain of caring for her sister, who suffered from significant vision and hearing impairment.

The case took a dramatic turn in 2019 when a judge ordered Blackstone to stand trial for murder, citing the suspicious notes found at the scene as potential evidence of premeditation. Ultimately, Blackstone pleaded no contest to voluntary manslaughter and animal cruelty, receiving an eight-year prison sentence. While this brought a semblance of closure to the legal proceedings, the full truth surrounding Wendy Blackstone’s death may forever remain obscured by conflicting accounts and unanswered questions.

Snapped airs Sundays at 6:00 PM on Oxygen.
