A high school friendship that bloomed into an unexpected love, a tragic turn, and a selfless quest—these are the cornerstones of Someone Like You, Karen Kingsbury’s newest film, adapted from her acclaimed novel. The movie, which marks the first project from Kingsbury’s new production company, Karen Kingsbury Productions, will be available on Pure Flix, Thursday, February 20, before its broadcast premiere on Great American Family, Saturday, February 22.
The film follows architect Dawson Gage (Jake Allyn) who finds his world upended after losing his close friend, London Quinn (Sarah Fisher). Their connection had evolved over a decade from a teenage crush to a deep friendship. In the wake of tragedy, Dawson becomes driven to fulfill a heartfelt mission: finding London’s secret twin sister, Andi Allen—also played by Fisher. The twins, separated as embryos, must now confront love, loss, and unexpected discoveries that will challenge everything they thought they knew.
Lynn Collins and Scott Reeves play London’s parents. Real-life married couple Robyn Lively and Bart Johnson take on the roles of the doctors, completely unaware that the embryo they donated two decades earlier would result in two lives – London and her twin.
“Karen Kingsbury is a beloved storyteller who crafts narratives of love, faith, and redemption,” said Bill Abbott, President and CEO of Great American Media. “She has been a valued creative partner for years, bringing her novels to the screen. Someone Like You holds particular significance as it’s the first project from her new production company. Her passion is evident in every frame.” Abbott added.
Kingsbury herself stated, with a sense of both personal investment and determination, “Of all the books I’ve written, Someone Like You has always been my readers’ favorite. The only way I could do justice to this story was to bring it to life myself.” Her passion led her to co-write the screenplay with her son, Tyler Russell, and to serve as executive producer.
With Tyler Russell at the helm as director and featuring a talented cast, Someone Like You takes viewers on an emotional journey exploring the complexities of human relationships, grief, and the search for meaning after loss.
Someone Like You streams on Pure Flix, Thursday, February 20 at 8PM ET, and then premieres on Great American Family, Saturday, February 22 at 8PM ET.
