In this episode of Songs of Praise, actor and star of Bridgerton, Adjoa Andoh, invites viewers on a personal journey as she shares her faith and reflects on her life. She takes Sean Fletcher on a walk through her childhood village of Wickwar in the Cotswolds, a charming countryside setting in the West Country.
Andoh, who is also a lay reader, begins her story at the village’s Congregational chapel, where her walk with God started as a young child. She then leads Fletcher into the surrounding countryside, a place she holds dear as it makes her feel closest to God, surrounded by nature’s beauty.
Along their walk, Andoh opens up about her gift for acting, which she believes was given to her by God, and how she now gives back to the church through her lay reading. The pair also discuss the hymns that hold a special place in Andoh’s heart, creating a meaningful connection between her faith and the stunning natural landscapes.
The episode features performances of beloved hymns, including “Jerusalem” at the Castle Park Bandstand in Colchester, “We Plough the Fields and Scatter” at The Priory in Little Wymondley, and “Before the Throne of God Above” at St Thomas’ Church in Newcastle.
