This Sunday, “Songs of Praise” brings the vibrant energy of gospel music to viewers’ screens with a special broadcast from the iconic Union Chapel in north London.
Leading the charge is the Sound Foundation choir, directed by the renowned Lascelles Haughton. Backed by a live band, they’ll fill Union Chapel’s rafters with classic gospel sounds guaranteed to get toes tapping and spirits soaring. Adding to the mix are special guests, including Michelle John, whose powerful vocals have shared the stage with the likes of Madonna and George Michael after being first discovered on “Songs of Praise” as a teen. Gospel mainstay Wayne Ellington, leader of the acclaimed Manchester Inspirational Voices, will also lend his talents to the afternoon’s festivities.
The program features a mix of gospel favorites, original compositions, and new takes on time-honored hymns. From the exuberant “Oh Happy Day” to the soulful “I Go to the Rock,” the song selection offers something for everyone. “Songs of Praise: Sing Gospel!” airs Sunday, May 11th at 1:15 PM on BBC One.
