Just when you thought the Carolina Cup couldn’t stir up any more trouble, “Southern Charm” returns with an Easter celebration poised to crack more than just pastel-colored eggs. Apparently, horseraces and holidays are equally effective at unearthing the fault lines in this genteel facade.
This week’s episode, “Off the Peep End,” finds our cast still reeling from the Cup’s aftershocks. JT, it seems, has landed squarely in the crosshairs of Charleston’s rumor mill. Exactly what he’s supposedly done remains a bit murky – as is often the case when whispers travel faster than a thoroughbred on Derby Day – but suffice it to say, reputations are on the line. And in a town where social currency is valued more than actual currency, that’s a serious offense.
Naturally, Miss Patricia, ever the Southern hostess, decides an Easter gathering is just what the doctor ordered. (Perhaps she’s hoping a dose of deviled eggs and sweet tea will smooth ruffled feathers?) Spoiler alert: it doesn’t. Instead, her soiree becomes a breeding ground for speculation, turning the traditional Easter egg hunt into a frantic search for the truth (or, at least, the juiciest version of it).
The episode looks set to deliver a masterclass in the Charleston whisper network. Think of it as a game of telephone, but instead of mangled phrases, it’s reputations that get distorted with each retelling. The fallout from the Carolina Cup spreads like spilled champagne, leaving no social gathering unscathed. And with this crew, a casual brunch can quickly escalate into a full-blown social war.
“Southern Charm” airs Thursdays at 9/8c on Bravo.
