Things are about to get whimsical on Food Network’s “Spring Baking Championship.” This Monday, the five remaining bakers face a challenge that’s part culinary skill, part fantastical imagination. Host Jesse Palmer, ever the purveyor of sweet surprises, tasks the competitors with creating “floating island” desserts featuring tropical fruit. Picture this: a delicate, fruit-filled confection encased in a shimmering caramel net, seemingly suspended in mid-air.
Plus, in a twist sure to ignite some competitive sparks, the bakers must also whip up ice cream-filled cake bombes…that glow in the dark. A “Magical Elixir Bar,” stocked with luminescent concoctions, will provide the necessary ingredients. Exactly what kind of sorcery this bar contains is anyone’s guess, but it’s sure to result in some visually stunning, if not slightly bewildering, creations.
Judges Duff Goldman, Kardea Brown, and Nancy Fuller have the enviable, and possibly stomach-ache-inducing, task of determining whose dessert reigns supreme in both taste and magical presentation.
