Twenty years. Two decades of nests, newts, and nature’s unpredictable narratives. “Springwatch” is back, celebrating a landmark anniversary with an expanded look at the UK’s wildlife, kicking off Monday, May 26th at 8:00 PM GMT on BBC Two.

This season, Chris Packham and Michaela Strachan broadcast live from the scenic National Trust’s Longshaw Estate in the Peak District. Expect fresh faces in the wildlife cast, with nests and characters making their “Springwatch” debut. Meanwhile, Iolo Williams takes his nature-watching expertise to Northern Ireland, exploring everything from bustling cityscapes to remote, windswept islands.

But the real innovation this year? “Springwatch Street.” The series aims to offer viewers an inside look at the secret lives of garden creatures across the country, transforming everyday green spaces into stages for wildlife dramas. Think of it as a nationwide nature documentary, filmed in backyards and window boxes.

“Springwatch” has always been about documenting the ebb and flow of British wildlife through the seasons, connecting viewers with the natural world in a way few other programs manage to achieve. From the first episode aired on May 30, 2005, “Springwatch” has earned a loyal viewership. This 20th-anniversary season looks set to further enhance that connection, revealing nature’s ongoing story in vibrant detail.
