“St. Denis Medical,” NBC’s mockumentary sitcom about the chaotic inner workings of an underfunded hospital, returns with another dose of absurdist humor. This week, Joyce mandates an aggressive upselling initiative, pressuring the staff to push unnecessary procedures on their unsuspecting patients.
This, of course, leads to predictable chaos, as the doctors and nurses engage in a cutthroat competition to meet their quotas. As if that weren’t enough, a case of mistaken identity throws another wrench into the works, turning the hospital into a scene of farcical mishaps.
Meanwhile, Bruce and Ron, the hospital’s resident odd couple, decide to moonlight as plumbers, a venture that will almost certainly end in disaster. “St. Denis Medical” thrives on its comedic portrayal of the everyday challenges faced by healthcare professionals, often finding humor in the mundane realities of an understaffed and under-resourced institution.
The show walks a fine line between satire and sincerity, acknowledging the genuine dedication of healthcare workers while simultaneously poking fun at the bureaucratic nonsense they must endure.
“St. Denis Medical” airs Tuesdays at 9:30/8:30c on NBC.
