Ah, St. Denis Medical, that bastion of barely-controlled chaos nestled somewhere in the wilds of Oregon. In this week’s installment, “A Peanut and Caramel-Filled Miracle,” the usual blend of medical mishaps and interpersonal absurdities gets a sugary, salty twist. Forget life-or-death decisions – the real drama unfolds in the breakroom.
Apparently, a candy bar is the source of a serious showdown between Ron (David Alan Grier) and Bruce (Josh Lawson). My money’s on Ron – Grier’s comedic timing could make a tax audit hilarious. But Lawson’s Bruce has a certain oblivious charm, so who knows what kind of passive-aggressive candy-related warfare might break out. If it doesn’t involve a full-blown passive-aggressive candy-related warfare I will be extremely disappointed.
Elsewhere, Alex (Allison Tolman) faces a less delicious dilemma – firing an incompetent employee. This could go in a multitude of directions: awkward, excruciating, or maybe even oddly heartwarming. It’s St. Denis, after all, where even HR nightmares probably end with someone accidentally stapling their own hand. Let’s face it, firing someone is always a challenge.
And then there’s Matt (Mekki Leeper), whose ego seems to inflate faster than a punctured lung. After (presumably) saving a patient, he’s angling for some serious kudos. Given the general dysfunction of St. Denis, I’m guessing he’ll be lucky to get a lukewarm cup of vending machine coffee and a pat on the back with a slightly sticky hand (likely Ron’s, post-candy bar battle).
“A Peanut and Caramel-Filled Miracle” airs Tuesday, December 3 at 8:00 PM-8:30 PM EST on NBC.
