Stan Acquire First Malaysian Drama with “The Bridge”

Australian streamer Stan has acquired its first Malaysian drama, the Southeast Asian version of the Scandi-scripted format The Bridge. Starring Bront Palarae and Rebecca Lim, it follows a Malaysian investigator and a Singaporean detective solving a border-crossing crime.

Stan, the Australian streamer, has acquired its first Malaysian drama by securing the Southeast Asian version of The Bridge, which was originally a joint production between Sweden’s SVT and Denmark’s DR. The Malaysian version, consisting of 20 episodes with a duration of 60 minutes each, was commissioned by Viu and HBO Asia in 2018 and was produced by Vision New Media-owned prodco Double Vision.

The series, which revolves around a Malaysian investigator collaborating with a Singaporean detective after a body is discovered on the border between their two countries, has been well received, screening in 23 territories across Asia. The acquisition by Stan will introduce a new audience to the well-crafted Malaysian adaptation of this popular series.

The cast of the Malaysian version includes Bront Palarae (Katarsis) and Rebecca Lim (Third Rail). This marks a significant achievement for the Malaysian drama industry, as it showcases the country’s creative talent to a broader global audience.

The deal was facilitated by Banijay Rights’ Lyle Bettson-Barker, senior VP for Australia and New Zealand, who expressed enthusiasm for the series and its global appeal.

The Bridge has garnered widespread attention and continues to captivate viewers around the world, making it one of the most prominent scripted formats of the last decade.
