Stan Picks Up Australian Series Nautilus from Disney

Nautilus Cast

In a significant acquisition, Stan has taken over the Australian series Nautilus, originally commissioned by Disney+ UK. Filmed in 2022 on the Gold Coast, the ten-part series is based on Jules Verne’s Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea and will soon stream exclusively on Stan, marking a notable shift from its previous distribution plans with Disney.

Nautilus stars Shazad Latif as Captain Nemo, joined by Georgia Flood and a strong ensemble cast including Richard E. Grant, Anna Torv, and Noah Taylor. The show presents a fresh perspective on Verne’s classic tale, focusing on Nemo’s journey as an Indian prince seeking revenge against the East India Mercantile Company.

Produced by Moonriver TV and Seven Stories, Nautilus was filmed between February and December 2022. Hundreds of Australians were involved in its production, both in front of and behind the camera, making Stan’s acquisition a boost for the local industry.
