SoFi Stadium’s shimmering facade will host more than just Taylor Swift this December. On Wednesday, December 18, the California Golden Bears and the UNLV Rebels will take to the field for the 2024 Starco Brands LA Bowl Hosted by Gronk — because why not add a little “Gronk” to the mix?
For the Golden Bears (6-6), this bowl game offers a chance at redemption after a disappointing 2023 postseason loss. Likewise, the No. 24 ranked UNLV Rebels (10-3) aim to shake off the memory of their own bowl game stumble last year. Both teams are looking to end the year on a high note, adding some West Coast spice to the college football landscape.
While Cal might have a slight historical edge in bowl games since 1990 (10-6), UNLV’s 3-2 record isn’t to be scoffed at. More recent history, however, favors the Bears: they edged out the Rebels 20-14 in their 2022 matchup. Will history repeat itself, or will the Rebels write a new chapter under the SoFi lights? Frankly, given the often unpredictable nature of college football, I have about as much faith in predictions as I do in Rob Gronkowski’s post-retirement plans.
The kickoff is set for 9 PM (21:00) Eastern Time on ESPN.
The Starco Brands LA Bowl Hosted By Gronk airs Wednesday, December 18, 2024 at 9 p.m. ET on ESPN.
