Steve Carell is set to star opposite Tina Fey in Netflix’s upcoming comedy series “The Four Seasons,” marking a reunion for the pair after their 2010 feature “Date Night.” The series is based on the 1981 film of the same name, and will see Carell and Fey collaborating once again with a talented team of creators and producers.
“The Four Seasons” is co-created by Fey, Lang Fisher, and Tracey Wigfield, who previously worked together on the final season of “30 Rock.” The trio will also executive produce the series, along with David Miner, Eric Gurian, and Jeff Richmond. Joining them are producers Alan Alda and Marissa Bregman, whose father produced the original film.
The series is produced by Universal Television and Fey’s production company, Little Stranger, Inc. It will consist of eight episodes and is slated to begin production later this year.
“The Four Seasons” film, written and directed by Alan Alda, centered on three couples who vacation together each season. However, their dynamic changes when one of the couples divorces, and the husband begins bringing a younger woman on subsequent trips. The original cast included Carol Burnett, Len Cariou, Rita Moreno, Jack Weston, Sandy Dennis, and Bess Armstrong.
Steve Carell, known for his roles in “The Office,” “The Big Short,” and the “Despicable Me” franchise, will be reuniting with Universal Television, the studio behind “The Office.” Carell’s recent TV credits include “The Patient” on FX and “The Morning Show” on Apple TV+.
The series marks Tina Fey’s return to a leading role in a comedy series since “30 Rock” concluded in 2013. Fey’s collaboration with Netflix includes “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt,” “Mulligan,” and “Girls5Eva.” Lang Fisher, co-creator of “Never Have I Ever”, and Tracey Wigfield, creator of “Great News” and “Saved by the Bell,” bring their successful track records to the project.
