Stranded on Honeymoon Island is heading to Channel 7 this June, with Endemol Shine Australia backing the unscripted swing for the network’s next major dating format play.
Adapted from a concept by Denmark’s Snowman Productions (Married at First Sight), the series fast-tracks 12 singles from speed dates to wedding vows—then drops them on a remote island, still in their gowns and tuxes, for 21 days of high-stakes, low-comfort coupledom. Phones, exits, and modern conveniences? All off the table.
The format, distributed globally by Banijay, is the latest high-concept relationship experiment in the company’s growing pipeline, and marks a bet by Seven on stripped-back, attention-grabbing reality with digital upside. Narration is handled by Australian media personality Jackie O, who brings built-in familiarity for local viewers.
Produced by Endemol Shine Australia (MasterChef Australia, Big Brother), Stranded on Honeymoon Island joins Seven’s June slate across linear and streaming via 7plus. The order reflects the continued push by Australian broadcasters to bank on scalable, returnable IP with format resale potential—particularly in the reality space, where franchise turnover has quickened post-pandemic.
The original version launched in Belgium last year, with other local adaptations now in the works across Europe. The Aussie take leans harder into survival elements, pushing couples to confront emotional baggage and physical hardship without outside interference.
Seven is clearly positioning Stranded as a potential tentpole for viewers burned out on predictable dating tropes—upping the stakes with instant marriage and no escape clause. If the gamble pays off, expect Banijay to fast-track more localised versions off the back of the Australian run.
