When we talk about what people are watching right now, HBO and Max’s “The White Lotus” is still leading the pack. For the second week straight, the show pulled in a massive 1.251 billion viewing minutes, holding onto the top spot in the streaming ratings. It seems we can’t get enough of those fancy, slightly unhinged getaways.
Right on its heels, though, is Netflix’s “Black Mirror.” Its seventh season dropped and immediately grabbed the number two position overall, with 1.1 billion minutes watched. A big chunk of that time, about 83%, was spent on the fresh episodes, proving that Charlie Brooker’s bleak views on technology still have a big draw.
Meanwhile, over at Hulu, the final season of “The Handmaid’s Tale” clearly had people tuning in. The show reached 921 million minutes of watch time, with the audience leaning heavily female. Max also saw a good bump for “The Pitt.” Its first season wrapped up, hitting a series high of 852 million minutes viewed with that last episode.
In other news from the streaming landscape, “Grey’s Anatomy” just keeps going. The medical drama crossed the billion-minute mark for the 22nd time – a serious display of staying power for a show that’s been around for ages. Paramount+’s “1923” got a lift from its season finale, racking up 949 million viewing minutes.
On the movie front, Prime Video’s film “G20,” starring Viola Davis, was the most-watched film, bringing in 516 million minutes, with Black audiences showing strong interest. Netflix also saw its unscripted content doing well, with “Bad Influence: The Dark Side of Kidfluencing” and “Million Dollar Secret” landing spots on the original chart. And in a bit of a surprise, the old Western classic “Gunsmoke” made a rare appearance on the acquired chart, showing those free ad-supported streaming channels are finding some viewers.
