A single season is all “Suits LA” will get. NBC has canceled the legal drama spin-off, ending its brief run on the network. The show, featuring a stellar cast that included Stephen Amell, Lex Scott Davis, Josh McDermitt, and Bryan Greenberg, will conclude its run on May 18.
This wasn’t a case of gradual decline; “Suits LA” struggled from the start. The first season, comprising 13 episodes, averaged a 0.17 rating in the crucial 18-49 demographic and drew just 1.49 million viewers on Sunday nights – a low-performing showing in the lineup and NBC’s second lowest-rated series.
It’s a disappointing outcome, considering the show’s connection to the successful, nine-season “Suits” on USA Network. The show, set in Los Angeles, followed Ted Black, a former federal prosecutor trying a new career representing high-profile clients. Hopes were high that the new series would ignite the same spark as the original. Sadly, this attempt to replicate the magic of the original series on NBC fell short of expectations.
The initial push for a spin-off stemmed from the surge in popularity of “Suits” on Netflix during the pandemic, an intriguing factor that ultimately couldn’t translate into substantial viewership. Even appearances by some of the original “Suits” actors like Gabriel Macht, Rick Hoffman, and David Costabile were unable to boost audience interest.
Today’s announcement also included the cancellation of “Found,” “The Irrational,” “Lopez Vs Lopez,” and “Night Court”.
