Channel 4

The Channel 4 documentary series Super Surgeons: A Chance at Life returns with a new episode airing on 18 June 2024 at 9:00 pm. This episode centres around 18-year-old Anthea, an aspiring midwife, and 43-year-old Cameron, who is facing a challenging cancer diagnosis.

Anthea has a tumour in her arm that is so complex that doctors consider amputating her arm. However, consultant general surgeon Professor Andy Hayes, a specialist in limb sarcomas, offers her hope. Anthea undergoes an isolated limb perfusion, a procedure that delivers intensive chemotherapy specifically to her arm. Professor Hayes aims to support Anthea in realising her dream of becoming an NHS midwife.

Meanwhile, Cameron is confronted with the unexpected return of testicular cancer years after having both his testicles removed. Scans reveal cancerous cells in the lymph nodes near his abdomen, and the aggressive cancer has proven resistant to chemotherapy.

Chief of surgery and consultant urological surgeon Professor David Nicol steps in, offering Cameron a radical procedure known as an RPLND. Professor Nicol embarks on a complex surgery, navigating past Cameron’s major organs to dissect the lymph nodes, hoping to halt the cancer’s spread.
