After four seasons, the CW’s Superman & Lois is touching down for its final flight. “It Went By So Fast,” airing Monday, December 2nd, finds the Kent family facing their ultimate challenge: Elon Musk’s sorry I mean Lex Luthor’s endgame for Smallville. Let’s just say, he doesn’t have the town’s beautification in mind.
For those who’ve stuck with the series, this episode is the culmination of everything – the family drama, the small-town charm (what’s left of it), and the Man of Steel’s never-ending struggle against superpowered psychopaths. It appears the writers are aiming to deliver a proper send-off, and with Lex Luthor pulling the strings, it’s hard to see how Smallville, let alone the Kent farm, will make it out unscathed.
Michael Cudlitz’s Luthor has been a consistent bright spot, bringing a gravelly voiced menace to the show. In this final face-off, he looks set to turn the dial up to eleven. One thing’s for sure, Tyler Hoechlin’s Superman and Elizabeth Tulloch’s Lois will have their hands full. After all these threats, both cosmic and terrestrial, it would be a real twist if they went down in their own backyard.
Gregory Smith, a veteran of shows like Everwood and Rookie Blue, is in the director’s chair for this swan song. With a script by Brent Fletcher & Todd Helbing, it’ll be interesting to see if they manage to land the plane smoothly or if it crashes and burns in spectacular fashion. The title “It Went By So Fast” definitely suggests a certain wistful tone, but let’s hope the finale itself is a little more…kapow! than melancholic.
Superman & Lois airs Mondays at 8 PM EST on The CW.
