Troy Landry usually tackles gators, not graveyards. But in this Thursday’s episode of “Swamp Mysteries,” titled “Rest in Peace,” he’s on a mission to uncover lost cemeteries buried beneath the murky waters and tangled vegetation of the Louisiana swamps. When anthropologist Dr. Duke Beasley calls on Troy for help, the swamp man and his team trade their usual hunting gear for a combination of high-tech equipment and old-fashioned know-how.
The challenge? Time and tide. These vanishing gravesites are literally being swallowed by the swamp, sinking into the silt and disappearing from memory. It’s a race against nature, a quest to preserve a piece of history before it’s lost forever. The team faces the difficult task of tracking down the vanishing gravesites before they succumb to silt. “Rest in Peace” presents a slightly different take on the usual swamp adventures, blending historical investigation with the familiar thrill of exploring this unique ecosystem.
“Swamp Mysteries” airs Thursday, April 17 at 9:35 PM on History.
