Things are about to get seriously reptilian in the Everglades. In this week’s “Swamp People: Serpent Invasion,” airing Thursday, January 16, at 9:35 PM ET/PT on History, the teams are joining forces for an all-out war against invasive pythons. A location rumored to be teeming with the slithery menaces has been identified, and the hunters are deploying everything in their arsenal – buggies, boats, and even drones – for a coordinated attack.
This python hotspot represents a growing threat to the fragile Everglades ecosystem, so the stakes are high. While the show sometimes veers into the dramatic (or melodramatic, depending on your tolerance for reality TV theatrics), the underlying issue of invasive species is a serious one. “Swamp People: Serpent Invasion” at least raises awareness of the problem, even if it does so with a healthy dose of reality TV flair. Will this coordinated effort make a dent in the python population? Tune in to find out. And try not to have nightmares about giant snakes.
