Apple TV+ is reteaming with Taron Egerton and Dennis Lehane for Smoke, a new crime series rolling out June 27. The streamer unveiled the trailer Thursday, confirming a two-episode launch followed by weekly drops through August 15.
Created and executive produced by Lehane, Smoke casts Egerton as Dave Gudsen, a hard-edged arson investigator forced into an uneasy partnership with NYPD detective Michelle Calderone, played by Jurnee Smollett. The pair are tasked with tracking a pair of elusive firestarters before they strike again.
Inspired by true events and the podcast Firebug from Kary Antholis, the eight-part series leans into the psychological and procedural stakes of the investigation. Apple Studios produces, with direction from Kari Skogland, Joe Chappelle, and Jim McKay.
Supporting cast includes Rafe Spall, Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine, Hannah Emily Anderson, Anna Chlumsky, Adina Porter, Greg Kinnear, and John Leguizamo.
The series also features an original main title theme from Thom Yorke, available on Apple Music the day of launch.
For Apple, Smoke marks another swing at high-end genre with a prestige spine—leveraging Lehane’s brand of no-frills storytelling and Egerton’s post-Black Bird momentum to anchor a summer tentpole.
