Just when you thought the festive TV treats were done and dusted, Channel 4 throws another log on the fire with Taskmaster’s New Year Treat. Alex Horne is back, presumably still finding increasingly ludicrous ways to torment celebrities, all under the watchful eye of the Taskmaster himself, Greg Davies. This year’s batch of victims—sorry, contestants—includes David James, Hannah Fry, Martin Lewis, Melanie Blatt, and Sue Johnston. Quite the eclectic mix, wouldn’t you say?
The tasks themselves remain shrouded in mystery, although the press release hints at activities involving gloves, regrets, and the movement of water. Make of that what you will. Let’s just say that if previous specials are anything to go by, we’re in for a healthy dose of absurdity, physical comedy, and the occasional outburst of competitive rage.
The real question, of course, is who will manage to impress the mighty Greg Davies enough to take home the coveted golden eyebrow trophy? Will it be the former England goalkeeper, the mathematician, the money-saving expert, the pop star, or the acting legend? Honestly, it’s anyone’s guess. And that’s precisely what makes Taskmaster so reliably entertaining.
