In a festive spectacle blending sequins, sass, and some seriously impressive cha-cha-cha, Tayce, the former RuPaul’s Drag Race UK star, made history, snatching the coveted Glitterball trophy on the Strictly Come Dancing Christmas special. Paired with professional partner Kai Widdrington, Tayce scorched the dance floor, earning a perfect 40 for their fiery routine set to Kylie and Dannii Minogue’s “100 Degrees.”
This win isn’t just a victory for Tayce; it’s a landmark moment for representation on one of the UK’s most beloved shows. As the first drag artist to grace the Strictly ballroom, Tayce not only delivered a showstopping performance but also, in her own words, hopes to “pave the way” for more drag icons to follow in her high-heeled footsteps.
While Tayce’s triumph was undoubtedly the highlight, the Christmas special wasn’t short on festive cheer or familiar faces. The lineup included comedian Josh Widdicombe, model and presenter Vogue Williams, athlete Harry Aikines-Aryeetey, actress Tamzin Outhwaite, and racing driver Billy Monger, all bringing their own brand of holiday spirit to the competition.
Beyond the individual performances, viewers were treated to a nostalgic dose of girl power courtesy of Spice Girl Emma Bunton, who performed a special rendition of “2 Become 1.” And no Strictly Christmas special would be complete without a dazzling group number from the professional dancers, who brought the stage to life with their rendition of “I Love Christmas” from Scrooge. The special also featured a joyous group dance, with all contestants joining in for Leona Lewis’s “I Wish It Could Be Christmas Every Day,” a fitting end to the festive competition.
The Christmas special airs Monday, December 25, 2024, on BBC One.
