It’s 8:23 pm, and a routine commuter flight from Heathrow to Belfast encounters a critical situation. Flames are spotted in one of the plane’s engines, leading the pilots to shut down the right-hand engine. As the flight diverts to East Midlands Airport, flying on just one engine, a new crisis emerges. The remaining engine loses all power, and with the M1 motorway lying between the plane and the airport, disaster looms.
On board the Boeing 737-400 are 118 passengers, who face the nightmare of an imminent crash. The aircraft descends towards the crowded motorway, and the impact claims the lives of 74 passengers. It is one of the worst aviation accidents in British history.
Through vivid dramatic reconstruction, state-of-the-art special effects, and first-hand accounts, “M1 Plane Crash” explores the remarkable story of Flight British Midland 092 from the perspectives of those who survived.
