The Beast Must Die

ITV’s streaming service, ITVX, will be showing the gripping revenge thriller The Beast Must Die. Based on the novel by Nicholas Blake (a pen name of Cecil Day-Lewis CBE, father of iconic actor Daniel Day Lewis) , the series stars Cush Jumbo as a grieving mother seeking justice for her son’s death in a hit-and-run.

The stellar cast includes Billy Howle as Detective Nigel Strangeways, a troubled yet brilliant officer with his own traumatic past. The series also features Jared Harris, Geraldine James OBE, Nathaniel Parker, Maeve Dermody, Mia Tomlinson, and newcomer Barney Sayburn.

Episode 1 introduces Frances Cairnes, played by Jumbo, who is determined to avenge her son’s death. She sets her sights on the man she believes is responsible and infiltrates his life, plotting her revenge.

In Episode 2, Frances continues her dangerous mission, navigating her way into the life of the suspected killer.

Episode 3 finds Frances struggling to execute her plan while DI Strangeways becomes increasingly suspicious of her presence on the island.

Episode 4 sees Frances’ plans threatened by unexpected twists, while DI Strangeways makes significant discoveries.

In Episode 5, Frances grapples with the fallout of her actions, and DI Strangeways scrambles to uncover the truth.

The Beast Must Die is directed by Dome Karukoski and produced by Sarada McDermott. The series is adapted for the screen by screenwriter Gaby Chiappe, who made the bold decision to swap the gender of the main character, originally a father in the novel, to a mother in the series.
