The Big Steam Adventure returns with a new episode, airing on Channel 5, as John Sergeant, Peter Davison, and Paul ‘Piglet’ Middleton explore the Scottish Highlands.
In this fourth episode, the trio embarks on a journey through the Cairngorms Mountain range, battling the unpredictable Scottish weather. They travel in a ‘White’ steam car, an exclusive vehicle once used to transport American presidents. Despite the challenges posed by the elements, they persist and are rewarded with breathtaking scenery. Upon reaching Aviemore, they board the Black 5 train, which takes them through a stunning valley along the River Spey. The observation carriage offers a spectacular view of the landscape, and the group even stops the train to fully immerse themselves in the beauty of their surroundings.
The following day, they encounter some obstacles during a steam boat trip on Loch Ness, facing strong winds and an unexpected gasket blow on the engine. Despite the setbacks, they safely make it ashore and continue their journey aboard Heilan Laddy, a colorful and historic stream truck. Peter takes the wheel, navigating one of Britain’s most spectacular roads, while John’s nerves are tested by Peter’s seemingly erratic driving. They take a break by a lock, cooking and enjoying a traditional meal of haggis, ‘neeps,’ and ‘tatties’ prepared on the truck’s embers.
As night falls, they conclude their journey at Eilean Donan Castle, one of Scotland’s most iconic landmarks.
The Big Steam Adventure: The Highlands (Season 2 Episode 4) airs on Friday, May 24, 2024, at 8:00 PM on Channel 5.
