Forty seasons. Countless questionable life choices made in pursuit of fleeting reality TV glory. MTV’s “The Challenge” reaches a milestone with its Season 40 finale, and if the rumors are even remotely true, it’s going out with a bang — or maybe a whimper, depending on how you feel about potential twists. “The End of an Era, Part 2” airs Wednesday, and with a million dollars on the line, the remaining competitors are undoubtedly facing a cocktail of exhaustion, ambition, and the creeping existential dread that comes with realizing you’ve dedicated a significant chunk of your life to repeatedly running into walls.
This season, which brought together 40 classic Challenge contestants from across all eras of the show’s history, has had its share of predictable interpersonal fireworks and physically demanding competitions, lots of rivalries have reignited and lots of friendships remade. But the real drama, as always, is reserved for the finale. The million-dollar prize, while substantial, is almost secondary to the bragging rights and the potential to solidify one’s place in “Challenge” history. However, a twist looms, one that could reportedly snatch victory from the jaws of defeat, or vice-versa. Is it a last-minute elimination? A points reset? A surprise appearance by CT Tamburello offering cryptic advice and a knowing smirk? We’ll have to watch to find out.
Tune in to MTV on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, at 8:00 PM for “The End of an Era, Part 2.”
