The Chicano Squad: Part 2 (A&E, Tuesday September 3, 2024)

A&E to Air ‘The Chicano Squad’ Documentary in September, Marking 45 Years Since the Unit’s Formation

The Chicano Squad, a groundbreaking team of bilingual patrol officers, faces new challenges in the second part of this documentary. Having established themselves as Houston’s first all-Latin homicide unit, they now confront the influx of Colombian drug cartels, which has resulted in a wave of violence and earned Houston the title of “Murder Capital of the US.”

This episode looks into the squad’s efforts to tackle the soaring Latin homicide rate in Houston and their impact on community policing. It includes interviews with original squad members, such as Jim Montero, José Selvera, and Raymond Gonzales, who share their firsthand accounts of revolutionizing police work and becoming one of the most highly decorated law enforcement units in Houston’s history.
