The Chosen” is going Hollywood – or at least, Fathom Events-wood. Creator Dallas Jenkins’ crowdfunded Jesus drama, having already conquered streaming and amassed a devoted following rivaling some small nations, is taking its fifth season, subtitled “Last Supper,” to the big screen. This isn’t just a one-night-only thing either; we’re talking a multi-part, multi-week theatrical rollout starting March 27, 2025, just in time for Easter.

For the uninitiated, “The Chosen” offers a fictionalized account of Jesus’ life, racking up over 250 million viewers through its previous four seasons. Now, with the fifth season focusing on the week leading up to the Last Supper, Jenkins is clearly aiming for an even bigger audience – and a more immersive experience, given the series is shot in cinematic format. While the show has found success by bypassing traditional distribution, the move to theaters is a shrewd calculation, tapping into the existing fanbase’s enthusiasm while also presenting a chance to convert new viewers who might not have encountered the series through streaming.

The theatrical release will follow a somewhat unconventional structure. The eight-episode season will be split into three parts, unfolding over four weeks in U.S. and Canadian theaters. International audiences will get their first taste starting April 10, with Part One rolling out in over 40 territories. Naturally, a streaming release will follow later in 2025.

Jenkins has stated that Season 5 focuses on the tumultuous week preceding the Last Supper, portraying Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem and the escalating tensions with religious and political leaders. Given the show’s existing popularity and the inherently dramatic nature of the story, this theatrical release looks to be a significant event, even beyond the usual faith-based entertainment sphere.
