Elliot Page is a Canadian actor and producer. They rose to fame for their starring role in the television franchise “Pit Pony” and their recurring roles in the series “Trailer Park Boys” and “ReGenesis”. Page has since received various accolades, including nominations for an Academy Award, two British Academy Film Awards, a Golden Globe Award, a Primetime Emmy Award, and a Screen Actors Guild Award. In 2020, Page came out as a trans man on social media, sharing their preferred pronouns as “he/they”. Page has also been an outspoken LGBTQ+ and environmental activist, advocating for abortion rights and practising as a vegan.

Devery Jacobs is an award-winning actor and filmmaker. They are known for their performances in Reservation Dogs, American Gods, The Order, Cardinal, and the Amazon Prime thriller “The Lie”. Jacobs is also an award-winning filmmaker, with their short film “Rae” winning Best Youth Work at the 2017 imagineNATIVE Film Festival. In 2024, Jacobs was named as co-winner of the Radius Award at the 12th Canadian Screen Awards.

“Backspot” is a queer cheerleading drama directed by D.W. Waterson in their feature-length directorial debut. The film follows two cheerleaders, Riley (Jacobs) and Amanda (Kudakwashe Rutendo), as they navigate the world of competitive cheerleading. Riley is given the opportunity to join the All-Star team, the Thunderhawks, but must first learn to manage her anxiety, her relationship with her girlfriend, and her need for approval from her new coach, Eileen (Evan Rachel Wood).

“Backspot” premiered at the 2023 Toronto International Film Festival and is scheduled for release in Canada and the United States on May 31, 2024.
