‘The Great American Recipe’ Returns to PBS June 17 with a New Season of Culinary Delights

Eight home cooks from diverse backgrounds across America will showcase their unique culinary styles, influenced by their heritage and personal journeys.

PBS has announced the eight home cooks who will compete in the third season of “The Great American Recipe,” the uplifting cooking competition series that celebrates the diverse and vibrant nature of American food culture. Premiering on Monday, June 17, 2024, at 9:00-10:00 p.m. ET (check local listings), the eight-episode series will air weekly until August 12 and will be available for streaming on PBS.org and the PBS App.

Hosted by Alejandra Ramos, this season welcomes two new judges: award-winning chef and Los Angeles restaurateur Tim Hollingsworth, and Francis Lam, host of public radio’s “The Splendid Table.” They join returning judge Tiffany Derry in Nashville, Tennessee, where the season was filmed at Green Door Gourmet, a 350-acre farm and agritourism destination.

The contestants for this season come from diverse backgrounds and represent a wide range of culinary styles. They include:

Mae Chandran (Malibu, California), who was born in China and has Chinese-American and Sri Lankan influences in her cooking.
Marcella DiChiara (Franklin, Massachusetts), a first-generation American passionate about her Sicilian roots, who prides herself on traditional Sicilian dishes.
Tim Harris (Fort Mill, South Carolina), who grew up as a “military brat” and combines Dutch and Southern influences in his cooking.
Doug Heilman (Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania), a training consultant with German roots who draws inspiration from his husband’s Italian heritage and the Pittsburgh food scene.
Jon Hinojosa (San Antonio, Texas), a proud Mexican-American whose cooking is influenced by his El Paso roots and his experience working in local restaurants.
Adjo Honsou (St. Louis, Missouri), originally from Togo, West Africa, who creates delicious West African dishes using local substitutes for hard-to-find authentic ingredients.
Ingrid Portillo (Charlotte, North Carolina), an immigrant from El Salvador who keeps her cultural heritage alive through her cooking, inspired by her grandmother’s recipes.
Kim Sherry (Anchorage, Alaska), a fourth-generation Alaskan with a love for outdoor cooking and a repertoire that includes global flavors and comfort food, as well as skilled baking.

Each week, the contestants will face two challenges, with the judges determining the winning dish. In the final week, the top three cooks will compete for the chance to be crowned the winner of “The Great American Recipe” for 2024.
