The Luminaries, a six-part NZ-UK drama series, makes its Free to Air debut on ABC TV on Sunday 28 April. Based on the Man Booker Prize-winning novel of the same name by Eleanor Catton, the series is an adventure mystery set during New Zealand’s 1860s gold rush.
The story follows Anna Wetherell (Eve Hewson), a defiant young adventurer who has sailed from Britain to New Zealand in search of a new life. Along the way, she meets Emery Staines (Himesh Patel), and their encounter sparks an inexplicable kind of magic. As their fates intertwine, they begin to question whether they make their fortunes or if their fortunes make them.
The stellar cast includes Eva Green as Lydia Wells, Ewen Leslie as Crosbie Wells, Erik Thomson as Dick Mannering, and Callan Mulvey as George Shepard.
The Luminaries is a gripping tale of murder, love, and revenge, with a supernatural twist.
