Hunt for the Wilderpeople

Redbox is set to spring into action this April, offering a bountiful selection of feature films, each available to stream for free via their app. From manhunts in the New Zealand bush to virtual reality gaming with a sinister twist, Redbox’s cinematic offerings this month are a diverse array of genres.

Hunt for the Wilderpeople, available on April 1st, is a quirky and very funny Taika Waititi feature film about a rebellious kid and his foster uncle who go missing in the wild New Zealand countryside, sparking a national manhunt. With a cast led by the legend that is Sam Neill and including Julian Dennison (Deadpool 2), the film is a humorous and heartfelt adventure.

Also released on the same day is the fast-paced crime thriller London’s Finest, which sees a small-time drug dealer caught in a dangerous web when a corrupt cop tries to steal his consignment. The film stars Nathanael Wiseman (Hard Tide) and Arin Alldridge (Guardians).

In a veer towards high-stakes international crime, Diamond Cartel follows Aliya, played by Maria Antonietta Belcuore, an innocent woman drawn into a dangerous criminal world after a fleeting glance. Mental health is brought to the forefront in Curtis, a powerful story of a former basketball star’s battle with mental illness. Scouring the streets of Detroit for his lost championship ring, the protagonist, played by Brian Bowman (Electric Easy), finds his priorities shifting amidst a crisis.

April 1st also sees the release of the Crackle Original Sew the Winter to My Skin, an action-adventure film set at the dawn of South African apartheid. It follows a rebel who becomes an elusive hero-outlaw, portrayed by Dave Walpole (Amortal).

The Hero

The Hero is a poignant celebration of life and legacy. Sam Elliott (1883) stars as a past-his-prime Western icon who finds new purpose after a cancer diagnosis. Co-starring Laura Prepon (Orange is the New Black) and Nick Offerman (Parks and Recreation), the film is a thoughtful examination of later life and second chances.

For those inclined towards true crime, House of Manson offers an unflinching look at the infamous Charles Manson and the Tate-LaBianca murders. Ryan Kiser (Shadows) portrays the controversial figure.

Virtual reality takes a chilling turn in The Call Up, where a group of online gamers find themselves in a life-or-death struggle in a state-of-the-art video game. The cast includes Max Deacon (Into the Storm) and Morfydd Clark (The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power).

In another thrilling addition to Redbox’s April lineup, Dark Frontier takes us to 1900s Australia, where a boy’s loyalty to his father is tested when three ex-soldiers arrive at their cabin, claiming to have found gold. The film stars Aden Young (Reckoning) and Toby Wallace (Pistol).

For those who favor classic mystery, Mississippi Burning is a must-watch. This 1988 film sees Gene Hackman (The Firm) and Willem Dafoe (Spider-Man) as FBI agents investigating the disappearance of civil rights activists in Mississippi.

Rounding off Redbox’s April selections is Red Stone, a gripping crime drama. Neal McDonough (Justified) stars as a hitman tasked with hunting down a teenager who witnessed his brother’s murder. As the body count rises, so do the questions, and the hitman’s own sense of morality.

With a diverse range of films covering multiple genres, Redbox’s April offerings have something for every taste. Viewers can dive into these movies for free by downloading the Redbox app on their favorite devices.
