Another season of “The Masked Singer” comes to a close, leaving behind a trail of glitter, sequins, and increasingly desperate guesses from the panel. This Wednesday, the final two mystery warblers will belt out their last heavily-processed vocals, vying for the coveted Golden Mask Trophy. Will it be a victory for raw talent, or will sheer baffling celebrity carry the day? Intriguing, no?
FOX is setting the stage for maximum holiday-themed spectacle, promising a festive flair to accompany the final performances. The remaining contestants will apparently tackle four songs: Bruno Mars’ “When I Was Your Man,” Gotye’s “Somebody That I Used To Know,” Whitney Houston’s “I’m Your Baby Tonight,” and Sam Smith’s “Too Good At Goodbyes.” Quite the eclectic mix, suggesting a potential range of vocal abilities—or at least, a range of Auto-Tune settings.
Adding a dash of seasonal cheer, Nick Lachey, Season 5’s Piglet champion, returns to grace the stage with a rendition of “It’s The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year.” One wonders if his presence is intended to inspire the finalists or simply to remind viewers of a time when the unmaskings were genuinely surprising.
Presiding over the controlled chaos, as always, will be host Nick Cannon. And, of course, the panel of Ken Jeong, Rita Ora, Robin Thicke, and Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg will be on hand to offer their signature blend of wild speculation and strained banter.
“The Masked Singer” Season 12 finale airs Wednesday, December 18 at 8:00-9:02 PM ET/PT on FOX.
