In the latest instalment of The Motorway Cops: Catching Britain’s Speeders, PC Will Hunter and PC Brian Camsell are back on the beat, keeping the roads of Newcastle and Sunderland safe.
The episode, airing on Channel 5 on Monday, 19 August 2024, at 8 pm, kicks off with PC Will Hunter on a night shift in Sunderland. He spots a BMW with a busted tyre, billowing smoke. As Will turns to follow the car, the driver abandons it and flees on foot, disappearing into the night. Will finds the car abandoned in the road and, upon inspection, discovers it has been in an accident. A quick check of the driver’s phone, left behind in the car, reveals the driver’s address. Will pays the driver an unexpected home visit to get their side of the story.
Meanwhile, PC Brian Camsell is on the hunt for an uninsured driver in Newcastle. He tracks down the driver, who claims to have insured the car with a day policy but is unable to provide proof due to a supposed lack of phone signal. PC Camsell, with his reliable phone signal, makes a quick call to the Motor Insurance Bureau, only to discover that the driver has been attempting to insure the car while sitting in the back of his police car!
Later, PC Camsell responds to reports of an unauthorised car meet on an industrial estate. As he arrives, he finds himself amidst a crowd of boy racers and onlookers. As he prepares to disperse the gathering, a noisy car catches his attention, and he pulls over the young driver. PC Camsell delivers a lesson in tyre standards to the driver, much to the amusement of the watching crowd.
