The Olivier Awards, Britain’s most prestigious stage honours, will be held on 14 April 2024 at the Royal Albert Hall in London. The awards celebrate outstanding achievements in London theatre across various categories, including Best New Play, Best Musical, and Best Actor and Actress.
This year’s ceremony will be hosted by Emmy winner and multi-Olivier nominee Hannah Waddingham. The highly anticipated event will showcase the best of London’s West End theatre, with a range of productions vying for recognition.
The National Theatre has dominated the nominations, with 15 nods across various categories. Its footballing drama “Dear England” leads the way with nine nominations, including Best Actor for Joseph Fiennes, Best Director for Rupert Goold, and Best New Play.
Jamie Lloyd’s musical “Sunset Boulevard”, starring Nicole Scherzinger and Tom Francis, received 11 nominations, making it the most nominated production. It is recognised in multiple categories, including Best Actress in a Musical for Scherzinger and Best Actor in a Musical for Francis.
Other notable nominees include Sarah Jessica Parker, earning her first Olivier nomination for “Plaza Suite”; James Norton for “A Little Life”; Andrew Scott for “Vanya”; and David Tennant for “Macbeth”.
The Best New Musical category features “The Little Big Things”, “Next to Normal”, “Operation Mincemeat”, and “A Strange Loop”.
The Best Musical Revival award will be contested by “Groundhog Day”, “Guys and Dolls”, “Hadestown”, and “Sunset Boulevard”, among others.
The Olivier Awards will be broadcast on ITV, offering viewers at home the opportunity to witness the celebration of exceptional talent in British theatre.
