The Real Murders of Atlanta returns for its third season with an examination of the tragic death of world champion boxer Vernon Forrest. The episode, titled “Death Outside the Ring,” airs on Oxygen on Saturday, August 17, 2024, at 9:00 p.m.
On July 26, 2009, former professional boxing champion Vernon Forrest was robbed and fatally shot in the early morning hours. The incident occurred just before midnight as Forrest stopped to put air in his tires. This episode looks at the details of the case, following the efforts of APD detectives to bring justice for the fallen Atlanta icon.
The investigation into Forrest’s death was extensive and eventually led to the identification of three individuals: Demario Ware, Jquante Crews, and Charmon Sinkfield. Ware was convicted of felony murder and sentenced to life in prison for his role as the armed robber.
Crews, who acted as the getaway driver, was found guilty of Forrest’s murder and received a life sentence without the possibility of parole, plus an additional 10 years. Prosecutors alleged that as Forrest chased Ware, he encountered Sinkfield, who is believed to have been the gunman. Sinkfield was arrested and charged with Forrest’s murder.
