The Repair Shop returns Wednesday night with another heartwarming episode, as the team takes on a variety of cherished items in need of restoration.
The episode begins with the Willis-Cox family from Northampton, seeking the expertise of woodworking maestro Will Kirk. They present a unique bench with a sentimental story: it began its life as the family bed, holding precious memories of the couple’s premature son and the birth of their youngest daughter.
Over time, the bed was recycled into a garden bench, but now, it is weather-worn and unstable. Will meticulously dismantles the bench, turning new feet on the lathe and employing mortise and tenon joints to ensure its stability for generations to come.
From Glasgow, Andrew and Kirsty arrive with a special guitar crafted by Andrew himself, inspired by his father, Del, who instilled a passion for woodwork and music. However, a crucial mistake left the guitar neck attached crookedly, rendering it unplayable. Julyan Wallis takes on the challenging task of resetting the neck without damaging the body. With his expertise, the guitar is skillfully repaired, allowing Andrew to finally play the instrument that holds dear memories of his father.
Horologist Steve Fletcher is entrusted with a unique toy, a limited-edition gold ‘Etch-a-Sketch’, by Gemma from Colwyn Bay. Given to her by her father during her parents’ divorce, it holds precious memories of secret messages exchanged between father and daughter. Now, it has stopped working, and Steve ventures into uncharted territory to unravel the mystery of its inner workings and bring it back to life.
Sisters Kelly and Dawn present leather expert Suzie Fletcher with a unique challenge: the restoration of their father’s official taxi badge. Their father, John, was a black cab driver for 38 years, and the badge is a proud reminder of his dedication to his work. Suzie, with the help of Brenton, skillfully repairs the cracked leather surface, reinforces the stitching, and revitalizes the brass badge, allowing the sisters to proudly display this memento once again.
The Repair Shop, Episode 9, airs on Wednesday, 14 August 2024, at 8:00 pm on BBC One.
