The Russell Murders: Who Killed Lin and Megan? – Sky Documentaries Announce 17 September Premiere

The Russell Murders: Who Killed Lin and Megan?, airing this autumn on Sky Documentaries, will revisit one of the UK’s most brutal murders. The murders of Lin and Megan Russell and the efforts of a legal team to exonerate the killer are the subject of this three-part, sixty-minute series.
The murder of Lin Russell and her daughter Megan, then six years old, in 1996 is still remembered as one of the most shocking in the United Kingdom. Josie Russell, Lin’s 9-year-old daughter, miraculously made it through the ordeal. A year later, local drug addict Michael Stone was finally charged by police, based largely on a ‘confession’ to a former cellmate. Stone, who has a history of violent crime, has been in prison for 25 years at this point, but he insists that he is innocent.
In-depth interviews with Michael Stone’s solicitors as they prepare their final appeal allow for a comprehensive reexamination of the evidence in this conclusive series. Stone’s conviction is still in question after two trials and an appeal because there is no physical evidence implicating him in the crime.
With interviews to those closest to the case, many of whom have never spoken before, the series unravels this complex and troubling case in minute detail, from the police officer who discovered the bodies and saved Megan’s sister Josie’s life to a former prisoner who claims evidence against Stone was based on the lies of a fellow inmate.
The Russell Murders: Who Killed Lin and Megan airs on Sky Documentaries and streaming service NOW on Sunday 17th September at 9pm, with new episodes airing weekly.
