The second episode of The Secret World of Children takes us to a farm, where two groups of children are given a taste of independence and adult responsibilities. Amber, Theo, and Theodora start their day with a unique task: cleaning troughs using toilet plungers, an experience that leaves them bemused. Their boss, Tom announces that the best worker will be chosen for a special job: grooming the guinea pigs. However, this leads to an unexpected rebellion among the children.
The group are tasked with feeding the chickens, but the birds have other plans and make a daring escape attempt. After their hard work, the children are rewarded financially and head to the shops to buy provisions for a picnic. One group comes prepared with a list of ingredients for their dream sandwiches, while the other group tackles the shopping trip without a list, left to their own devices.
The children also encounter a moral dilemma when they stumble upon a lost wallet containing £10. As the day comes to a close, they end up at a park, where they face one final test: deciding whether to help a seemingly homeless person, who is actually an actress in disguise. Meanwhile, the other group reflects on their less-than-tasty ‘dream’ sandwiches, and an unexpected conversation ensues, with Arthur and Parker presenting a convincing case for a flat Earth theory.
