So, “The Talk” is finally wrapping up. After years of daytime chatter, the CBS staple embarks on its farewell tour this week, starting Monday, December 16, 2024, with a visit from Danny DeVito and his daughter, Lucy DeVito.
Frankly, the choice of the DeVitos feels almost too on-the-nose. A father-daughter duo known for their comedic timing, promoting their new holiday film, “A Sudden Case of Christmas,” on a show that’s itself experiencing a significant life event? It’s like a meta-narrative wrapped in a tinsel-covered package. But hey, why not embrace the sentimentality? After all these years, a little schmaltz might be just what the doctor ordered.
One can only speculate what kind of retrospective this final week will hold. Will they trot out former hosts? Will there be montages of memorable moments? Awkward celebrity interviews? Sharon Osbourne’s greatest hits? The possibilities are endless, and I, for one, am strangely compelled to find out. Will this final week manage to tie up loose ends, offer closure, or simply devolve into a maudlin mess? Only time will tell, I suppose. Which, coincidentally, is also how we measure the remaining lifespan of “The Talk.”
“The Talk” airs weekdays at 11:00 AM on CBS. Don’t miss the farewell week kickoff with Danny and Lucy DeVito on Monday, December 16, 2024.
