The Twelve Episode 2, 4 April 2024, ITV1
In this episode of The Twelve, airing Thursday night at 9.00pm on ITV1, Crown calls Detective Sam Chedid to the stand, and various pieces of evidence are introduced, raising questions about Nathan Spears’ involvement. The episode explores the impact of the jurors’ personal lives and biases on their interpretation of the evidence and their interactions with each other.
The twelve jurors bring their own unique backgrounds and perspectives to the courtroom. Among them are a university student dealing with racism, an obnoxious businessman, a homesick immigrant, and a woman in a controlling relationship. As they deliberate, their messy emotions, relationships, and personal troubles influence their views on the case and each other.
The trial centres on Kate Lawson, an artist accused of murdering her 14-year-old niece, Claire Spears. The case has become a media scandal, and the trial is controversial due to the absence of a body. Claire’s parents are divided over whether Kate should be on trial.
Kate’s defence lawyer, Brett Colby, is played by Sam Neill. Kate is portrayed by Kate Mulvany, while other cast members include Marta Dusseldorp as prosecuting lawyer Lucy Bloom, and Brendan Cowell as Garry Thorne.
As the trial unfolds, the jurors are taken to Kate’s house to see the Crown’s case theory played out, and they hear testimony from Claire’s mother, Diane, who supports her sister Kate. A shocking revelation comes from Claire’s boarding school mistress, Fiona, and the jury is sequestered after learning about Kate’s past actions.
The Twelve continues to explore the hidden human side of the justice system, revealing how the lives and biases of jurors intersect with the case and potentially influence their decision-making.
The Twelve Episode 2 airs on ITV1 at 9.00 pm on Thursday 4 April 2024.
