“The Voice” is back, and the stakes are about as high as a Mariah Carey high note. It’s playoff time, which means we’re one step closer to those live shows and one giant leap closer to Carson Daly awkwardly trying to fill dead air.
This Monday, the remaining artists will be belting their hearts out for a spot in the live shows. But here’s the kicker: each coach can only advance two artists from their team. Ouch. That’s going to sting.
As if the pressure of sudden-death elimination isn’t enough, the contestants will be graced (or burdened, depending on how you look at it) with the presence of “superstar advisors.” So far we know Machine Gun Kelly will be Team Gwen’s superstar advisor although many were hoping Gwen Stefani’s husband Blake Shelton might snag the role. Plus Team Snoop has lined up gymnastics champion Simone Biles as their Playoff Advisor. Snoop connected with Simone whilst he was covering the olympics for NBC.
The two-hour runtime promises more than just extended performances. We’re likely to get those oh-so-meaningful coach-artist interactions (cue the dramatic music) and enough close-ups of nervous family members to fill a photo album. And for the singers, it’s all on the line. This is their moment to prove they’ve got the vocal chops, the stage presence, and, let’s face it, the right sob story to win America’s hearts.
