The Witcher: An animated film ordered (whilst we wait for the arrival of season 2 on Netflix)

With The Witcher scoring big numbers for Netflix (recent numbers are suggesting it’s the most popular first season in the history of the streaming service).

It won’t surprise you to learn that Netflix has ordered an animated film, called The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf, pending season 2 which is already in pre-production.

The platform haven’t revealed much about this animation other than it will expand the universe of The Witcher by proposing to explore a new threat facing the Continent. Behind the project are producers Lauren Schmidt Hissrich (who is the showrunner of the series) and Beau DeMayo, with the Korean animation studio, Studio Mir who was behind Legend of Korra handling the animation. Naturally, there is no release date as yet.

For those who are not yet familiar with the latest Netflix success, The Witcher is based on the fantastic hit saga written by Andrzej Sapkowski and focuses on Geralt de Riv, a witcher – a monster killer, physically trained from a very young age and having undergone genetic mutations conferring on him supernatural capacities. His destiny is linked to that of Yennefer, a witch, and Ciri, a princess, on a Continent where humans, elves, gnomes and other monsters fight and live together to survive.

The Witcher season 1 soundtrack has also been well received and has recently become available for streaming.
