Netflix is about to get a dose of charmingly quirky crime-solving. “The Thursday Murder Club,” adapted from Richard Osman’s bestselling novel, lands on the streaming service Sunday, April 28th. This isn’t your typical gritty detective drama; think more cozy mysteries meets retirement community hijinks.
The story revolves around four unlikely sleuths: Elizabeth (Helen Mirren), Ron (Pierce Brosnan), Ibrahim (Ben Kingsley), and Joyce (Celia Imrie). These retirees, residents of a peaceful retirement village, gather weekly to dissect cold cases, a hobby that takes a dramatic turn when a real murder occurs nearby. Suddenly, their Thursday meetings become less theoretical and a lot more real.
Directed by Chris Columbus, the man behind family-friendly fare like “Home Alone” and the “Harry Potter” movies, “The Thursday Murder Club” offers a fresh take on the crime genre. With a screenplay by Katy Brand and Suzanne Heathcote, expect wit, warmth, and a few surprises along the way.
And as if the central quartet wasn’t enough star power, the supporting cast includes Naomi Ackie, Daniel Mays, David Tennant, Henry Lloyd-Hughes, Tom Ellis, Jonathan Pryce, Paul Freeman, Geoff Bell, Richard E. Grant, and Ingrid Oliver. That’s a lot of talent packed into one murder club.
“The Thursday Murder Club” streams on Netflix beginning Sunday, April 28, 2025.
