BBC Studios has revealed that Toyah Willcox will be a contestant on the upcoming series of Strictly Come Dancing, airing this autumn on BBC One and BBC iPlayer. The show marks its 20th anniversary with promises of heightened glamour and memorable performances.
Expressing her excitement, Willcox said, “Wow, Strictly Come Dancing! This is going to be a wild and wonderful ride, and I’m here for every sparkly second. I’m used to performing for big crowds, but this is completely fresh for me. How I will do is a mystery… I just want to get cracking and learn some dance routines now!”
Willcox, a celebrated singer and actress, has been a fixture in the entertainment industry for over five decades. Her iconic hits include “It’s A Mystery,” “I Want to Be Free,” and “Brave New World.” Recently, she performed at Glastonbury Festival alongside her husband, Robert Fripp. Her career boasts thirteen top 40 singles, twenty-five albums, two books, over forty stage plays, and more than twenty feature films. In 2018, Paul McCartney honored her with a Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts Companionship for her exceptional contributions to music, drama, performance, and media.
The announcement was made on Vernon Kay’s Radio 2 show. Additional celebrity contestants for the new series will be revealed in the coming weeks.
