So, Tracker is taking a detour into the spooky. This week’s episode, “Preternatural,” finds our reward-seeking protagonist, Colter Shaw, facing a case that might require more than his usual skill set. A missing teenager with a purported “spiritual gift” vanishes from a remote mining town—because where else would teenagers with spiritual gifts disappear from?
Let’s be clear, adding a “spiritual gift” element doesn’t necessarily guarantee quality. Will Tracker successfully blend its established investigative formula with something a bit more otherworldly, or will it stumble into a pit of TV supernatural clichés? We’ll see. Will it be closer to, say, early X-Files intrigue or late-stage Supernatural silliness?
Tracker season 2 has shown some inconsistency thus far. Some cases have been compelling, others… less so, it also seems to be heading into “otherworldly” territory on a regular basis. But, I’m willing to give “Preternatural” a chance. Maybe a little dose of the uncanny is just what Tracker needs to find its footing.
Tracker Season 2 Episode 5 “Preternatural” airs Sunday, November 10, 2024, at 9:00 PM ET/ 8:30 PM PT on CBS and will be available for streaming on Paramount+.
