Monday’s episode of Traffic Cops takes a hard turn into the world of drug-related crime. Derbyshire’s Road Crime Team is hitting the streets, targeting those involved in drug supply and driving under the influence. It’s not just speeding tickets this time; expect high-octane chases, tense arrests, and a sobering look at the impact of drugs on the roads.
One pursuit begins with a routine “no insurance” alert and escalates quickly, leading to a drug bust and a suspected DUI. Elsewhere, officers investigate suspected drug trafficking involving a taxi, a development that is probably going to result in some strongly worded reviews on the taxi company’s website. Even an armed response unit gets involved, pursuing a car linked to a suspected armed burglary that morphs into a drug-related case.
In a slightly less action-packed, but equally concerning, incident, a couple traveling with a baby are stopped and searched for Class A drugs after a suspected drug exchange. It’s a stark reminder of how drug offenses can impact even the most vulnerable members of society. With presenter Jamie Theakston narrating the action, this episode doesn’t shy away from the increasing prevalence of drug-related driving offenses and the near tripling of casualties they’ve caused over the past decade.
Traffic Cops airs Monday, December 30 at 8:00 PM on Channel 5.
