Channel 5’s Traffic Cops returns with a new episode guaranteed to make you question the sanity of some drivers. This week’s installment features the usual mix of high-speed chases, intoxicated motorists, and generally poor decision-making behind the wheel, offering a glimpse into the daily grind of traffic officers.
In one particularly hair-raising sequence, a driver attempts to evade police by heading the wrong way down a dual carriageway. As if this weren’t reckless enough, the suspect then veers off-road, seemingly believing a sudden foray into cross-country driving will magically erase the pursuing patrol cars. Spoiler alert: it doesn’t. The chase culminates in a collision with another vehicle, and an arrest for driving under the influence. One can only hope the other driver involved escaped unscathed.
Elsewhere, the episode takes a slightly more dramatic turn, as officers near Derby embark on a race against time to rescue a driver trapped in a submerged car. After careening off the dual carriageway, the vehicle landed in a swamp, creating a genuinely tense rescue scenario. Once safely extracted, however, the driver promptly gets arrested – you guessed it – on suspicion of drink driving. Apparently, swapping a watery grave for a jail cell wasn’t quite the happy ending envisioned.
Beyond these main events, Traffic Cops offers its usual assortment of petty crimes and questionable choices. A one-legged man suspected of attempting to steal a substantial quantity of vodka is apprehended (one wonders how he planned to carry it), a driver with no insurance leads police on a woodland chase, and a drunk driver decides fisticuffs with an officer is a sound strategy (it isn’t). Just another day at the office for Derbyshire’s finest.
