In Adelaide, the maintenance crew for The Ghan, Australia’s iconic passenger train, faces a race against time. The task: a bogie change that absolutely must be completed before the train’s scheduled departure. Meanwhile, in Brisbane, a seemingly routine wheel lathe job on a Queensland Rail commuter train hits a snag, turning a quick fix into a time-consuming headache.
And if that weren’t enough pressure, over at the Ipswich Heritage Rail workshop, a team of engineers and mechanics are prepping an 80-year-old steam locomotive for a grueling 90km journey up a steep mountain range. The locomotive is due to appear at a special event.
